Coming soon. Gyrocopter (Gyroplane) MT-03 training at GS Aviation, Marlborough, Wiltshire

Coming soon. Gyrocopter (Gyroplane) MT-03 training

Commencing early 2010, learn to fly in a gyrocopter (gyroplane) with GS Aviation, a Wiltshire flying school offering gyrotraining to PPL(G) using MT-03 aircraft. Ground school, trial lessons and gift vouchers will also be available.

Fantastic visibility - cuts through turbulence - 40kts wind tolerance - Great Fun

The MT-03 is one of the new generation of aircraft in the UK, BCAR Section-T compliant, factory built in Germany and final assembly in the UK at Rotorsport UK Ltd's CAA approved workshops. Gyrocopters have come a long way since Little Nellie in the James Bond film You Only Live Twice and are now practical, safe and serious fun to fly machines.

The gyroplane will complement our other flying activities. In many ways the aircraft is very similar to our present microlights. Same Rotax engine, same maximum take off weight, similar range and performance with the only major difference that it can land in a much smaller space. The licence required is the PPL(G) which requires more hours than the microlight but then the aircrafts abilities are much broader.

If you have ever fancied flying a rotary wing aircraft then consider the gyrocopter rather than a helicopter. They may not be able to take off vertically and hover but otherwise have many similarities. However the gyroplane uses considerably less fuel, is quieter and much much cheaper to fly.

We intend to offer training from early 2010 in the UK and possibly also in France. To register an interest in trial flights, gift vouchers or training contact Graham Slater, GS Aviation on 01672 515535 or Nigel Leak on 01488 657888 or contact us

Provisional Share Ownership Scheme for MT-03 C-CFGY in 2010

We intend to start a share package early 2010 and ask interested parties to contact us. This will be aimed at students joining the school, learning and then continuing as qualified PPL (G) pilots. We have many years of experience of running similar schemes on our other aircraft.

The provisional details are as follows:
10 shares available at £8050 each (This includes a refundable insurance excess component)
The owners will retain 2 shares making 12 shares in total.
Monthly charge of £40 to cover hangerage, permit, radio license, maintenance fund etc.
Annual amount to cover insurance premium TBA.
All prices are inclusive of VAT at 15%

On successful sale of these shares it will be our intention to order a Calidus to allow an upgrade path for qualified share holders to move onto.

Outline of 5 day intensive gyro training course:

  • Aircraft is an MT-03 training aircraft.
  • Starts Monday through to Friday.
  • One to one or two to one basis with your instructor.
  • 10 hours of flying, with the option of more hours if required at a pro-rata rate.
  • If a day is lost due to inclement weather then ground school and written papers will be substituted, so that every day of the 5 days is filled with additions towards the PPL G licence.
  • Cost of the course is £1100.00 this includes a maximum of 10 hours flying including instructor briefings, with more flying available at pro-rata rate if time allows.
  • If a flying day is lost then ground school on Aircraft Technical, AirLaw, Meteorology, Navigation and Human Performance and Limitations will be given.
  • The written examination can be taken on each subject when the student is deemed to be ready, these all contribute towards the PPL G licence.

This 5 day course is designed to consolidate both the practical flying and the knowledge required to achieve the goal of a PPL G Licence. You will be taught on a small, quiet airfield surrounded by beautiful countryside.

At first sight this looks like a helicopter manual however chapters 15 to 20 are on gyrocopters and it provides a lot of the technical detail about how rotary wing aircraft fly. I found this a useful read along side Phil Harwoods book mentioned above. Click here to buy through our Amazon shop
